![]() ![]() ![]() So the next time you find yourself in a store looking at dozens of different sunscreen options, know that one of these picks on the EWG sunscreen list is better than many of the other options. Now, to be clear, I believe the sun can be incredibly healing in the right dose, especially when it comes to avoiding vitamin D deficiency. But you don’t want to overdo it and suffer a damaging burn. With that in mind, the EWG sunscreen team is at it again, this time releasing a list of the safest, most reasonably priced sunscreens that are widely available in box stores around the country. ![]() (Did I mention that in America, 75 percent of sunscreens are toxic and/or don’t work?) Unfortunately, many of the highest-rated sunscreens aren’t readily available in chain grocery and drug stores, meaning it can me a little tricky finding a safe and effective sunscreen if you’re on the road and forgot yours at home. I know I’m grateful for the organization’s annual report highlighting the best sunscreens (and the most toxic ones to avoid). For more than a decade, EWG (the non-profit Environmental Working Group) takes on the annual task of sifting through sunscreen label claims, ingredient lists and scientific studies analyzing what’s really in those sunblock bottles. Oddly it rates lowest on the EWG scale compared to the other Babyganics Sunscreens which have a much higher rating.EWG sunscreen ratings serve as a lifeline for people who want to use sunscreen without all of the toxic ingredients. It appears to be sold out right now but hopefully will be stocked again soon!īabyganics Mineral Stick: We have and love this. It also applies very easily which is a huge plus.īlue Lizard Baby Sunscreen: Moms and kids alike love how this sunscreen bottle turns hot pink from white when exposed to UV rays, a great reminder to apply sunscreen! Also has a low EWG score, reviewers mention it is thick but a little goes a long way.īare Republic Mineral Baby Sunscreen: New on the scene – (and sold at Target) Bare has a great EWG score. Think Baby Stick + Think Baby Cream: We used Think Baby last year and are using it again this year since it kept Piper burn-free all summer. Some reviewers express difficulty with the spray bottle formula not spraying properly, so I’d stick with the cream formula. Goddess Garden Organics Natural Sunscreen: This product is also free from synthetic fragrances, is water resistant for 80 minutes and is free of toxic chemicals. It also has a great low EWG rating and the stick formula is popular for ease of application. Kiss My Face Kids Mineral Sunscreen : One of the best rated for least harmful chemicals, though some say it is slightly greasy.īaby COOLA Sunscreen: Unscented for babies and kids that may have sensitive skin, it’s on the pricier side and can be thick to apply but it’s a well known and reputable brand and also has great options for adults.īeaut圜ounter Stick Sunscreen: Aside from Badger, Beaut圜ounter sunscreen came with many recommendations from other mamas. Here are a few favorites.īadger Baby: Comes highly suggested by tons of moms I polled and is water resistant. You’ll be shocked at how toxic so many things are that are marketed as being ‘clean’ or ‘safe’ ! It’s been hard to find a sunscreen that applies easily, actually protects against the sun and isn’t loaded with toxic chemicals. This is my trusted resource for anything I put on the girls and I often look up beauty products for myself too - and of course household stuff as well. If you aren’t familiar with the EWG Skin Deep website I highly suggest checking it out – not only does it rate thousands of beauty products on a scale of 1-5 (with 1 being the lowest potential health risk and 5 the highest) but you can also look up individual ingredients if you can’t find the product you are looking for. ![]() As a follow up to last year’s popular sunscreen post I’m sharing our best bets for natural sunscreen this year with a few new additions so the mix. ![]()
